The ComicsPRO conference was a lot of fun.The Graphitti Designs presentation seemed to havegotten the message across that was desired. It's good to be back in the comic book saddle again.
The hotel, Texas Station, was totally surreal. It had a theme that was somewhat western cross pollinated with a Victorian train station motif. I've never been in Las Vegas and seen the casino bars and restaurants shut down. I failed to take any pictures but Jeff Smith did so maybe they will turn up on Boneville one of these days.
Yesterday, I met the McCloud clan at Canter's Deli for lunch. We did some quick shopping across the across the street at Family, and sped off to say hello to Bryan Lee O'Malley who was signing Scott Pilgrim books at Meltdown Comics.

Scott Pilgrim just got optioned for a movie at Universal--so I have my fingers crossed for him.
Also met Hope Larsen for the first time. She had the most amazing home-made portable drawing board travelling kit I've ever seen. Didn't get a good picture of it though
Bryan Lee O'Malley looking thrilled to meet the old Beanworld guy.

Hi Larry,
ReplyDeletesorry to dump this in the commments, but I'm following up on an email convo we had last year about my blog, Monkey Punch Dinosaur (www.monkeypunchdinosaur.blogspot.com) and your possible contribution to it.
I'm winding the blog down soon - going to stop at monkeypunch #100. I'm at #82 right now, so 18 to go. It'd be great if yours was one of the last 18.
If you're interested, you can email me at adamatsya@gmail.com.
thanks,
adam ford
I haven't read any of the graphic novels yet, but the Scott Pilgrim movie has my attention with Edgar Wright directing and Michael Cera starring. Looks like Bryan's brainchild is in amazing hands.
ReplyDeleteLarry, has the possibility of an animated Beanworld ever neared reality? Some of your descriptions in the books suggest you've thought precisely about how things would look in motion, and as an animator I can't help but imagine that whenever I read your work. :)
I think the lack of "Tantalizing Teasers" the past few weeks has been in itself a teaser.
ReplyDeleteYou're up to something, aren't you?
I want to second the animation question. I've always had a Beanworld cartoon in my head, after I discovered the comic. Actually, another commenter earlier mentioned a recent video game, Patapon for the PSP (youtube it) is a good example of how I saw it.
ReplyDeleteFor me, though, beyond the voice acting and the animation, the most important thing for an animated Beanworld would be the music. I've always hear tribal signatures when I've imagined it in my head, kind of very similar to a lot of BSG's soundtrack in the first/second seasons.
I would really LOVE a Beanworld cartoon. But I will be satisfied with more comics though :)

A cartoon could bring it to a larger audience, you have to imagine. But more comics first please!
ReplyDeleteActually, I would want a no-voices cartoon - music as the only soundtrack, and dialogue balloons that write themselves at a speed appropriate to the speech being spoken. As long as I'm fantasizing...
