WonderCon, Wahoolazuma Book Launch, and a Secret Sketch!

Last night, over on Facebook, I got a Wall Note from Dave Naybor of Casablanca Comics in Portland, ME: "The book looks great! I'm gonna have a blast selling this tomorrow!!"
Thanks for the confirmation of its shipping, Dave!

So...."Wahoolazuma! is going to go on sale today wherever Dark Horse Comics are sold.

This is good news, because it means that "Wahoolazuma!" will be on sale at WonderCon. I'm sure most of the more "enlightened retailers" will have copies on hand and I'm told Dark Horse will have copies for sale too. I won't have copies of the book on sale at my table. But I will have back issues of the original runs of TOTB and other leguminous oddities and collectibles with me in Artist's Alley.

What kind of oddities?
Well, you will just have to wander by and see.
Some you will never seen or heard of before!

I'm so excited to go into my comic store and by the first HC collection. I never buy collections of single issues I already have, but for TOTB I'm making an exception. I'm looking forward to the new material in coming months!

Diamond decided that Beanworld vol 1 was one of the several books they wouldn't bother selling to my store this week. :(

Pff... When I picked up my copy today Dave wasn't even at Casablanca yet. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

The book looks great. I've only read to issue 3 but remember it all as if it was 20 years ago. Bring on v.2!

Whoolazuma indeed!

My shop (Million Year Picnic in Cambridge, Mass.) only got a couple of copies so I checked to make sure they were reordering before I took one. It's just as important for me to have people see this on the shelf as it is for me to own one.

This will make reading the stories to my daughter a lot easier. But how can I get a "Secret Sketch" from all of the way across the country :-(

My almost-5 year old (whom I call "Baby Bean") has become a big fan of Beanworld over the past 4 months or so, almost as big a fan as myself. She's inherited most of my Beanworld collection, and will get the rest for her birthday next month.

Here are some pictures of her asleep in the car last month holding her latest treasured item:

(The hardcover looks great, BTW!)

Larry - I just bought Wahoolazuma! This edition looks beautiful. While I have the original issues, I'm so happy to be able to support the return of Beanworld by purchasing this hardcover and the upcoming one. I'm very much looking forward to the new material - I was one of those people who would intermittently Google "new Beanworld?" for the past 15 years hoping to hear news of your return. When I found out more was coming, I couldn't stop smiling for an hour. Thank you!

It's here!
It's here!
The book is here!

Hoo-hoo-ha!
The book is here!

Looks great, Larry. I ordered an extra copy so I can donate it to the local public library's graphic novel collection.

Got my copy at Comix Revolution in Mt. Prospect on Saturday. It made me start looking for all my cool, weird Beanworld stuff I've accumulated over the years. I'll send a photo soon.

Congrats, Larry!

I so would have asked for a secret sketch. Alas.
I went to the comics shop on Saturday. The bad news is, they were sold out of Beanworld.
The good news is, they were sold out of Beanworld!! The store manager told me he'd had half a dozen copies, and they all sold out, so he's ordered more. He said the holiday special really helped him sell the book. So I have to wait a few more weeks for Wahoolazuma, but it was actually really great to hear that the book is selling so well. Now if I can only figure out how to get a secret sketch...

Larry, maybe you have covered this elsewhere, but i was wondering if you had plans to collect material from the little-seen ashcans and things like back up strips like the solo Proffy adventure from the early issues in one of the hardcovers?

If I recall correctly, Proffy's solo adventure among the hoi-polloi is reprinted in the new hardcover as a regular story slipped in between some of the issues.

As for the ashcans:
Beanworld Zero was a rough for issue 20 so the full version of it should be in the Vol 2 hardcover this summer.
The Worst of Heyoka was not a story but random sketches.
Hungry? and Professor Garbanzo's Joy Ride were both drafts of parts of the unpublished Beanworld story titled "Remember Here When You Are There!" which Larry has said should be coming out in November as volume three of the new hardcover set (this is the story he had previously referred to as "Float Force").
The just leaves While We Were Eating!, which was a reprint of a story he did for the comic Asylum. Since that story was said to be a prequel to "Float Force," it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up being reprinted in Vol. 3 as well.

It has been ages since I was this excited about a new book - and this is from someone who worked in a comic shop for many years!

And... a new book of (mostly? all? I don't even care) old material!

Also very much looking forward to the final issues finally being collected (and the ashcans? one-shot thingies?).

Beanworld feels truly magical in a very powerful way that wore off for most things post-childhood.

In other words:
YAY YAY YAY! The TOTB HC is finally here in my hands!

Thank you!

The Big Fish's advice is an open ended offer for "Wahoolazuma" owners.
