Yep. It's true.
Comics.
Toys and Collectibles.
Entertainment.
Steve Duin of the Oregonian did a nice write up of today's panel--including the announcement above and includes the following summary
:"Dark Horse plans to republish the first 21 issues of Tales of the Beanworld, possibly in deluxe hardcover editions, then deliver Marder's new adventures sometime in early 2009. Diana Schutz will edit." I'm really
very excited to be affiliated with
Dark Horse. I've admired Mike Richardson and his crew from across the playing field for two decades and have always had the greatest admiration for the entire Dark Horse team.
Today I gave the first solo
Beanworld panel presentation in over 15 years. It covered a lot of ground, and I'm almost certainly going to be giving it again at
SD08. Also revealed was the name of the up-coming NEW graphic novel:
"Remember HERE when you are THERE." Also had the world premiere of a one minute Beanworld animation by the talented folks at Fashion Buddha Studios. As soon as it is posted on their site, I'll be sure to let you all know about it and tell you the back story behind it!
The biggest and most amazing thing that happened today, however, was meeting Mark Irons aka Half for the very first time. Half is the guy who bravely put together BeanWeb. We had an incredible conversation before and after my panel.
It's getting late but I really wanted to get this up tonight. I'll be back to share more with you very soon. Also breaking today is a piece about me and by me at CBR--orchestrated by George Khoury.
I'm going to bed--I'll be at the Dark Horse offices tomorrow and home (at last) on Tuesday. I'll be summarizing the entire continuum of the last 3 weeks then.

Less than a year til new, in-print Beanworld stuff? Oh god, this is great. I thought it would be "We're putting out the old stuff at the rate of one issue a year, then, if the world doesn't end, we'll consider publishing new stories..."
It would have been pretty funny if you'd gotten Cat to come out of her occult shop to edit after all this time.
This is very exciting. I cannot wait for the complete write-up!
YES!!!!!!
GREAT news! Although I'd known of its existence since the 80s, I didn't read Beanworld only 3 or 4 years ago when I found a mangled copy of the first collection in a used book store. I started slowly filling in the gaps, but finding out that the ending was left open for 15 years kinda took the energy out of my quest and broke my heart JUST a tad. Nothing worse than a dream unfulfilled.
I CAN NOT WAIT to see what you've got lined up! Congratulations!
This is wonderful news!! Congratulations!
It's been too long since we've been able to read new Beanworld tales. 2009 will not get here soon enough!
Oh, happy day!
I'm super glad you'll be doing a rerun of your panel at SD08.
This is uber exciting!!!
Oh, and thanks again for the sketch!!
Great news. And a really intriguing title to the book. It's going to be a long wait to find out what that means. So, are elements of the previously planned stuff (Why Me?, Float Force) incorporated into this new book, or is it a whole new direction?
Wahoo!
Huzzah!
YES! Great news!
Yippee! I can not wait to recommend this to everyone!
What's so amazing about the Beanworld is that I haven't read it in so long, yet so much of it resides in my memory. It makes you think, it makes you wonder, and it makes you smile.
When I was a younger comicbook collector, there were few series where I went back and bought all of the back issues. Beanworld was one. Concrete, Marvel Tales Lee/Ditko Spider-man, Sandman were others.
Congrats!
This is great news. A new collection is the kind of thing I'd buy as a gift / brain bomb for folks I want to introduce to Beanworld.
Thanks to Larry for signing stickers to put in my original bound collections! And supplying the uncollected issues I hadn't read.
Larry Marder at Stumptown Comics Fest
That is exciting news! It makes me realize that there are still a few holes in my Beanworld collection.
I had a little spell on Sunday when I realized that you were going to be at Stumptown and it made me wish I had made it down. I'm just up in Vancouver (Canada). Oh well.
Looking forward to the old and new stuff!
SWEET!!!!
I'm so looking forward to seeing Beanworld in a longer format. A lot was packed into those issues, but it was never enough.
This is truly too exciting. I'm not sure I can handle it. I may need sedatives.

I guess it's time to take out my mint condition, mylar-encased beauties and get them encapsulated. A Tales of the Beanworld # 1 in 9.8 could bring a pretty penny!
:)
Congrats, Larry. Now I can tell everyone!
It was everything Larry said and more. I hope the video of his talk and Fashionbuddha's Beanworld animation get posted pronto!
Mark I.
Good news beanfans! I found Fashionbuddha's chowraid animation:
The Chow Raid
Enjoy!
Larry, can I have permission to embed that on my store website?
That animation...is really cool. Love the Sprout-Butt. And the TMBG Jessica is perfect. Were you into them back in the 80s, or did the Fashion Buddha people suggest it?
Wow, that animation is just great. That should be a good attention grabber at conventions.
Thank you. ThAnK YoU. THANK YOU!!!

This is the best* news I've had in months.
For years, I insisted that the comic store I used to have a regular order at, keep Tales of the Beanworld on my list. It stayed there until I no longer bought comics, the last thing remaining when I finally canceled my account.
Even today, every so often I trawled the net for news. Every week or so, I check eBay. Just in case.
Larry, I'm so glad. I look forward to more Beanworld. I know it will be worth the wait.
(*Well, it would be, except the best friend of my deceased Zen sensei contacted me this week to let me know that he possessed the manuscript of my teacher's rumoured third, unpublished lost book of Zen teachings... apart from that, it's the best news I've had in months.)
I know it will be worth the wait, too, but I'm not sure I can stand to wait till next year...
Good Job! :)
That's great! I just wish the publishing world would put out some sort of update on occassion after they make these announcements. I check for news of this every now and then, but it doesn't seem like we're going to hear anything more until the books actually go to press and by then I could *easily* forget. Do you have any insight on when the Beanworld collected might come out? I was a kid in Kansas when they came out, so I just heard about them through the comix press, but never saw them. And I want to!
