2006 Beanworld Orphan Up for Adoption @ CBLDF Auction!

3" x 4 1/2 " drawing.
Black and colored marker on paper
in 5" x 7" hand decorated colored mat.

I got a note from Jill @ CBLDF letting me know that the above Beanworld Orphan piece is up for adoption in an online CBLDF auction.

The funds raised in this auction will help support the First Amendment legal work the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund performs on behalf of the comics community.

Yes, I know times are tough, and personal funds are more than a bit tight, but the good work that CBLDF does is just as important as it ever has been--if not more.

Plus, you'll give this cute li'l orphan a good home!

The Official LARRY MARDER Look-See SD08 Schedule

It is really amazing how much has changed in my life since last year's Comic Con International. I still rub my eyes in astonishment that I'm fortunate enough to draw Beanworld each and every day and have a happy publishing home for my creations.

This year I'll be taking meetings, attending panels, and just generally wandering the Con. I'm very curious about the current state of the comic book market place and I will be gathering as much information as I dust off and don my official Larry Marder "Nexus of All Comic Book Realities" Thinking Cap.

Unlike other years, where I was employed by others and my primary responsibilities were to their organizations; this year the only reason I'm at the Con is to meet and talk about Beanworld with you.

If you spot me meandering around, please don't think twice about stopping me to say "Hello."
Anywho, these are the places that I'm scheduled to be!

Thursday, July 24
7:30 PM
Comic Book Legal Defense Fund’s Comic-Con Welcome Party
Westgate Hotel in downtown San Diego.

CBLDF will have many Beanworld Orphan sketches for adoption at this event. Plus, I’ll be sketching my heart out at the annual meeting of the Drink & Draw Social Club. I tend to be very prolific at these Drink and Draw parties, and some of my most oddball ideas come surging out of my pens in the heat of doing sketch after sketch. They can all be yours with all proceeds going directly to CBLDF.

Some Thoughts About The Mistrial in Georgia

So, the Gordon Lee case ran off the rails almost immediately--resulting in a mistrial. The DA has announced he intends to try again. All of that means that the legal bills will continue to mount.
Fast.
The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund will continue to focus on this case well into the next year.

As I'm sure most of you know by now, Beanworld has been active (in its modest way) helping raise funds for CBLDF with my Beanworld Orphans. I will continue to create drawing and other art objects for CBLDF to utilize to raise funds for the defense of this trail.

The recent developments in Georgia have been just jaw-droppingly astounding to me. But I learned a long time ago, you can never really anticipate anything when you enter into a judge's courtroom.

Jeff Smith has penned an eloquent open letter to the comic book community at large and I urge you to click on the link and read it--if you haven't already read it on another site or blog.

When you get towards the end of the letter you will find my name listed along with some of the biggest names in comics:

To build up support for Gordon's trial, for a limited
time, the Fund is offering premiums previously only available at
conventions.

Signed graphic novels, comics and exclusive CBLDF prints
by creators such as Frank Miller, Jeff Smith, Brian K Vaughan, Brad Meltzer,
Robert Kirkman, Mike Mignola, Matt Wagner, Jack Davis,
Larry Marder, Terry Moore, Frank Cho and many more are available at various
donation levels.
If your premium donation exceeds $50, you will receive free
shipping on your order until December 15, just in time for the perfect gift for
that special comic fan in everyone's life. Visit
www.cbldf.com to see all of what's
available.

I will keep you all up-to-date regarding my participation in this program as more information becomes available.
