WonderCon, Wahoolazuma Book Launch, and a Secret Sketch!

Last night, over on Facebook, I got a Wall Note from Dave Naybor of Casablanca Comics in Portland, ME: "The book looks great! I'm gonna have a blast selling this tomorrow!!"
Thanks for the confirmation of its shipping, Dave!

So...."Wahoolazuma! is going to go on sale today wherever Dark Horse Comics are sold.

This is good news, because it means that "Wahoolazuma!" will be on sale at WonderCon. I'm sure most of the more "enlightened retailers" will have copies on hand and I'm told Dark Horse will have copies for sale too. I won't have copies of the book on sale at my table. But I will have back issues of the original runs of TOTB and other leguminous oddities and collectibles with me in Artist's Alley.

What kind of oddities?
Well, you will just have to wander by and see.
Some you will never seen or heard of before!

Beanworld art being auctioned on ebay for CBLDF!

Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is auctioning this piece at this very moment:
You can link directly to it on ebay--> here!

This is a rather large drawing--the paper is 11" x 17" -- as the slug in the upper left corner indicates, I drew this at a Golden Apple/CBLDF event in Los Angeles on 12/19/07.
I'm not entirely sure but I think I was sitting next to and talking with Brian K Vaughn as I was drawing it. It was the first time I met him and we were talking about LOST.
The funds raised in this auction help support the First Amendment legal work the CBLDF performs on behalf of the comics community. I know times are tough, and money is tight, but the good work that CBLDF does is just as important as it ever has been--if not more.

Tuesday's Tantalizing Teaser!

Another panel from "Remember Here When You Are There!"
Wondering what the new sport might be?
Well, for those of you that have one--look at page 14 of the 1999 ashcan "Professor Garbanzo's JOY RIDE." That should give you a pretty good clue.

Just got word from Dark Horse--"Wahoolazuma! was received into inventory at Diamond on Monday, so will ship tomorrow and be in stores 2/25."

Beanworld Buzz!

"Wahoolazuma!" is about to arrive into the marketplace.
The advance buzz has been beyond my wildest dreams.

Entertainment Weekly

"Like George Lucas, Stan Lee, and J.J. Abrams,
cartoonist Larry Marder is the creator of a deeply imagined alternate world that inspires obsessive fandom and yields glossaries, maps, and
websites. "

Sean Howe

"It’s not the sort of world of imagination you lived in as a child, but it is the sort of world of imagination that Marder must have lived in as a child, and which he reconstructs for you to live in as an adult seeing things as a child again. It’s not exactly a modern work of mythology, but it certainly taps into the same things that mythology does, and works in much the same way mythology does."
J. Caleb Mozzocco

"Beanworld life is a carefully calibrated blend of the quotidian and magical. Like the best imaginary universes, it provides a constant unfolding of anxious and ecstatic mysteries both sacred and profane. "

Richard Gehr

And then there is this one I failed to post after the Holiday Special came out.

"...one of the most original and brilliant comic-book universes ever created."
Spash Page
The book should start showing up on the shelves this week.
My special thanks to Jeremy Atkins and the Dark Horse PR department for their hard work in getting the Beanworld word out.
And an extra special Hoo-Hoo-HA & a Hoka-Hoka-HEY to Jacquelene Cohen, Dark Horse Publicity Coordinator. Jacq's enthusiasm is infectous and her creative flair added just the right touch at the exact right time.
And now?
My new graphic novel "Remember Here When You Are There" is crooking a finger at me and telling me "Big deal. You did that work a long time ago. Get back to work on MY PAGES--the big ol' deadline clock is ticking!"
Gotta go.
Beanworld summons.

Tuesday's Tantalizing Teaser A Day Late....

...But hopefully not a dime short.

Another single panel from "Remember Here When You Are There."
There has been some concern about where in the world is "Wahoolazuma!"
The answer is....somewhere.

The book shipped from China weeks ago.
It was a little late due to some production hassles that Dark Horse and their print broker did a heroic job of catching and fixing.

Was "Wahoolazuma!" on a slow boat from China?
Maybe.

If the weather in the Pacific was bad and blowing the wrong way.
(I learned all that stuff in the toy business!)
Plus, Diamond is in the midst of an operational move that has been playing temporary havoc with all publishers.

With all those factors in consideration--"Wahoolazuma!" should be in your comics shop on 2/18 and no later than the week after 2/25 before WonderCon for those of you that will be attending and want your copy signed.

This is what I'm thinking about today.

It's ALMOST a teaser...but not quite.
Heh.

I won't be at NYCC this week end but CBLDF still has Beanworld Orphans available for adoption in exchange for a donation to the Fund.

Tuesday's Tantalizing Teaser!

I've been so busy that a whole week went by and I didn't post since last week's Teaser!

Here's a panel from "Here There!" featuring Guitar Boom'r and the Pod'l'pool Cuties on the steps of the Chowdown Pool.

Come back tomorrow for an up-date regarding WonderCon 09. I'll be there and doing a bunch of things.
