WONDERCON!

Oh, yes,
I'll be at
WONDERCON
March 16-18
at the Anaheim Convention Center

Artists' Alley
AA-076

I'll have a notebok full of pages from
Larry Marder's Beanworld Book Four: Something MoRE!
with which to tease Beanworld fan WonderCon attendees most mercilessly.

I'm fortunate enough to be a last minute addition to the panel:
Comics for Kids3:00-4:00
Room 203

Despite the fact that most of us fell in love with the comics medium when we were children,
good comics for kids seem few and far between...or are they?
Join moderator and APE Entertainment editor Aaron Sparrow, artist James Silvani (Darkwing Duck, Richie Rich), artist Amy Mebberson (The Muppet Show, Strawberry Shortcake, Toy Story),
Shane Houghton (Reed Gunther, Casper Scare School), Archaia editor Paul Morrissey,
Beanworld creator Larry Marder and more for a lively discussion on kids comics, their place in the industry, and how to break into the business!
As a bonus, children attending the panel will be eligible to win comic books and sketches t
he artists will draw during the panel!

In the meantime, however, take a look-see at the page above.
It's a tantalizing teaser for everyone, everywhere!
(And it's not even Tuesday!)

WONDERCON!

Not a hoax!
Not a dream!
Not even an April Fool's Day Joke!

But maybe I am a wee bit crazy!

Held over for the time being...here is the deal!

Come by my table on Artist's Alley (AA 103) at WonderCon
and trade-in one of your homemade Beanworld drawings
for a genuine Marder-drawn, signed original sketch of the same character!

Offer open to kids of all ages!

THE DETAILS:
Only one trade-in per person allowed.
If your drawing contains more than one character,
you must decide which single character you'd like as your trade-in sketch.

After the drawing exchange I can post your sketch in the
Leguminous Fan Art Gallery.
And it would be nice if I could get a snapshot of you and your art too.

In addition to FREE Beanworld Action Figures,
I'll have hardcovers, comics, ashcans, and art for sale.

On Sunday from 12:00 - 1:00 only....
I'll be signing and drawing TFAW cards at the Dark Horse booth.

And whatever you do--don't forget:

Playing Catch Up!

WonderCon was a terrific experience. I loved being in Artist's Alley for the first time in almost 20 years. My table display was a ramshackle mess compared to all the slick displays of the new generation of cartoonists putting their collective toes in the waters of conventioneering, and I took quite a bit of ribbing from my friends for it but, honestly, I didn't care. Pam over at And We Shall March took the above shot of the Beanworld chaos at my table. You can judge for yourself.

I was giving out gobs of FREE Beanworld Action Figures and those silly things still make people break out in big smiles.
My panel was last thing of the day on Friday, in fact, part of the allotted time went past the dealer room closing. I wasn't really sure ANYone was gonna show up--but they did--and we had a terrific time talking about anything and everything. And, as it turned out, it was the first panel I ever gave where there wasn't someone holding up a sign saying "2 minutes" or "STOP!" because there wasn't anyone behind us. Finally about 10 minutes past the allotted time I saw that a cleaning staffer was standing there waiting for us to leave so we broke camp and went our ways.
Had a fun time signing at Dark Horse giving out the new signing card and a really good time at the CBLDF Drink & Draw doing stream-of-consciousness sketches. Pam bought one.
Thank you everyone who bought the book and got it there!

WonderCon, Wahoolazuma Book Launch, and a Secret Sketch!

Last night, over on Facebook, I got a Wall Note from Dave Naybor of Casablanca Comics in Portland, ME: "The book looks great! I'm gonna have a blast selling this tomorrow!!"
Thanks for the confirmation of its shipping, Dave!

So...."Wahoolazuma! is going to go on sale today wherever Dark Horse Comics are sold.

This is good news, because it means that "Wahoolazuma!" will be on sale at WonderCon. I'm sure most of the more "enlightened retailers" will have copies on hand and I'm told Dark Horse will have copies for sale too. I won't have copies of the book on sale at my table. But I will have back issues of the original runs of TOTB and other leguminous oddities and collectibles with me in Artist's Alley.

What kind of oddities?
Well, you will just have to wander by and see.
Some you will never seen or heard of before!

Some WonderCon Pictures!

As usual...most of the time I either left my camera in my room or forgot that I had it in my pocket. But from time to time i would remember I had it and would get a picture here and there.

Here I am with my former boss, Jim Lee, at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund booth.

It was great fun to run into Brian Haberlin, my former associate at Image Comics and TMP.

Also ran into another former associate, Steve Oliff.
We had a great conversation catching up on our respective careers
and mulling over old times.

Wow! David Laurence Wilson popped up too.
Dave's Readymade Rubber company was Beanworld's very first licensee.

I always liked those Beanworld rubber stamps.

Here I am with Terry Moore, a fellow veteran from self publishing days and Image Comics
I can't wait to see Terry's new book
Echo.

Rory Root has been a Beanworld booster since we met at PetuniaCon in 1984.
It is impossible for me to go to Rory's Comic Relief convention store
and not see dozens of books I really want to read.

I was delighted to snag a copy of Mark Evanier's Kirby: King of the Comics book there.

Yes.
It's a poster.

It will be on sale at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund table
at WonderCon this coming weekend.
No, I'm not an official guest--so you didn't miss my name
on any of the convention announcements.
Yes, I will be signing and drawing at CBLDF's booth.
They will have a variety of Orphans and other things.
And I will be happy to discuss this drawing.
More details as they surface.
